Practice information

Long Lane Medical Centre was the first of a series of new, purpose built, medical facilities for Liverpool opened in 1989. Medical accommodation comprised 4 consulting rooms and a treatment room.

There were 3 doctors, a part-time practice nurse (which was a new role in primary care), two reception staff and a caretaker who lived in a flat upstairs. Following the retirement of Dr Woods in 2023 there are now only two of the original staff left. Julie and Christine, they hold the endurance record!

The practice quickly outgrew its premises and over the next 20 years there were two generations of portacabins. The first had two consulting rooms and the replacement had 5 consulting rooms and a meeting room. When the flat upstairs became redundant the accommodation was taken for office space and staff room and the old staff room was converted into a consulting room.

The practice became paper light in 2010.

We are now part of North Liverpool Primary Care Network, to whom responsibility for future developments will devolve in conjunction with the practice needs and desires.
